In the decade of Woodstock and flower children, Red Wing Shoe Company customers wanted their favorite boot company to give them a shoe that would carry them through their outdoor adventures.

In 1965 Red Wing introduced an outdoor boot line to answer the needs of a generation of folks who wanted to get back to nature. After a name change in 1972, the line was officially called Vasque, in honor of the European Basque region along the France and Spanish border where the shoes were manufactured.
